Twelve months in, our Graduate reflects on his first year across the Asset & Development Management divisions

When I joined RivingtonHark a year ago, I came with a background in office agency and virtually no experience in asset management, development management, or the retail property market.  Twelve months on, I can confidently say the learning curve has been steep – and the experience genuinely unlike anything else available in the industry.

From day one, I was given real responsibility.  Working across multiple assets within the RivingtonHark portfolio has provided an incredibly broad foundation, and the nature of those assets makes its all the more valuable.  Several of our assets are undergoing active redevelopment, which means the asset management strategy is rarely straightforward.  Every day brings a new challenge, and with that comes a depth of exposure that simply cannot be replicated at most firms.

I am currently asset managing Royal Victoria Place and Liverpool St Johns – two assets that have pushed me to develop quickly and think commercially from an early stage.  The variety of stakeholders involved across both schemes has added another dimension to the role entirely; from working alongside public sector council clients to engaging directly with Private Equity partners in Liverpool St Johns, where RivingtonHark holds a co-investment position.  The exposure and understanding I have received at such an early stage in my career has been invaluable and set me up well for the future.

Perhaps what sets RivingtonHark apart most is the access it offers.  As a boutique business, the lines between junior staff and senior leadership are short.  Day-to-day exposure to the equity partners of the business has stretched my thinking beyond what my role might suggest on paper.

Alongside my day-to-day responsibilities, RivingtonHark have gone above and beyond in supporting me through my APC exams, which I expect to sit at the end of 2026 to become a qualified chartered surveyor.

Looking ahead, I am excited about what the next chapter holds.  With a number of new projects in the pipeline, it feels like a genuinely exciting time to be part of the RivingtonHark team.
