Arcades, Ashton-under-Lyne

RivingtonHark secured the Arcades shopping centre in a JV with Ares, following an off-market approach to the owners, CGI.

The scheme comprised 140,000 sq ft, car parking and 40 stores. Developed by MAB base don Holland, it was their first project in the UK.

Aim:

To create value by extending the asset, re-anchoring and securing a new bus interchange.

Achievement:

We secured consent for a 180,000 sq ft extension, more than doubling the size of the asset. We also secured Debenhams as the anchor and worked with the Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive, alongside the Local Authority to secure a new transport interchange feeding into the scheme.

We had an off-market approach to buy the asset by AIB Investors and sold the project for £84m in 2006.
