St John's, Liverpool

The vision is to work closely with key stakeholders including Liverpool City Council to evolve and improve the centre; St John’s forms a key part of the council’s ‘Gateway’ regeneration plans.

Currently in it’s 51st year, Liverpool’s first shopping centre, St John’s is a local icon comprising 540,000 sq ft of retail, a Market Hall, 625 space car park, and Europe’s largest digital media wall.

Since RivingtonHark’s involvement, the centre has been refurbished, repurposed and re-imagined to provide a successful, convenience led shopping destination.

St Johns has been loyally serving its local community since 1969 and has continued to support shoppers during this extremely challenging time. Our essential retailers have remained open to the public throughout lockdown and now, with the news that non-essential stores can reopen on Monday 15th June, St Johns will see the return of over 55 key retailers. The centre will once again showcase a wide retail offering with brands and boutiques across fashion, jewellery and children’s toys all aiding in reaffirming the centre’s broad appeal.

Shopper safety is paramount at St Johns and during partial closure the centre has been systematically deep cleaned, social distancing signage has been implemented and hand sanitiser stations installed across all of the malls. The centre has long focused on customer service and innovation and with this in mind, trading hours have been extended to ease capacity concerns and footfall will now be managed dynamically by state of the art occupancy counting software. This technology forgoes the requirement for permanent entrance closures and one way systems; our careful planning means shoppers can return to a familiar shopping environment with the reassurance that their safety and wellbeing is our number one priority.

The centre has continued to evolve throughout partial closure; with one of the UK’s largest living green walls being successfully installed to time and in budget.  The spectacle spans 65 metres in length and contains over 14,000 plants.

Every part of the customer journey has been enhanced with a new consumer website launched with a mobile first approach.  The refreshed St Johns logo and updated branding also appears throughout the asset.

The car park will also once again open 24/7 and will continue to offer safe, good value parking in the heart of the city. Electric vehicle charging also remains free at the point of use; a unique offering in the area.

At 51 years young, St Johns is cleaner and greener than ever before and ready to welcome the people of Liverpool back through its doors.
