ESG
Using our problem solving and progressive approach, we are passionate about and duty-bound to improve the environment and communities in which we work.
Environmental, Social & Governance
RivingtonHark recognises that it has a responsibility to the environment beyond legal and regulatory requirements. We seek to identify all environmental risks and opportunities associated with our business and are committed to reducing our impact and continually improving our environmental performance.
Our mission
Through our focus on People, Place and Partnership we are committed to being a better steward of the environment by making sustainable and socially intelligent decisions, that also make financial sense.
Future proofing buildings is integral to optimising real estate performance. The built environment contributes around 40% of the UK’s total carbon footprint according to UK’s Green Construction Board (GCB); our sector has a huge role to play in tackling climate change and target a carbon neutral way of life.
RivingtonHark embraces this challenge and is constantly seeking ways to make our projects as sustainable as possible, not just in their construction but also importantly in their operation and use to attract and retain occupiers. Ultimately, improving the economic life of a building.

Values
How sustainability impacts our work
In order to build a sustainable future we work with customers, suppliers and stakeholders to make the same commitments. For each of our projects there are six core principles that we practice and encourage from our clients and partners.
Efficient and proportionate use of our resources
We aim to recycle materials and source local materials whenever possible on our developments, utilising appropriate technologies and materials in order to develop sensitively to the local and global environment. In Swansea we have used stone from local quarries as facing stone and exceeded BREEAM very good standards in the design of Copr Bay.
Promotion of healthy living
The physical and mental health of the communities in which we work are fundamental to the success of our developments. High quality design that promotes healthy living and wellbeing is at the forefront of our process. The creation of a 1.1 acre coastal park in Swansea is the first since Victorian times.
Jobs
We encourage our partners and suppliers to actively contribute to the education, development of skills and job creation within the local communities in which we work, with the aim of generating wealth whilst reducing poverty through quality secured work. Our latest building contract achieved its 60% local employment target.
Protecting biodiversity
We aim to maintain and enhance our natural environment and its ecosystems in order to reduce the effects of climate change. In Chester a new sustainable drainage system for rainwater run-off in Chester Northgate will benefit the entire city. We are responsible for green walls in Newcastle, Chester and Swansea as part of out drive to see a more diverse environment.
Culturally and visually sensitive design
The design of our developments must be attractive whilst culturally sensitive, providing a safe, well-connected environment for local residents that encourages community participation. The digital design of Swansea event arena will allow events to be translated and communicated across the community.
Equality and diversity
We engage with all community stakeholders regardless of background or circumstances to develop in a way that does not discriminate or disadvantage. Our public consultation of Swansea the was commended as an exemplar for the way the pre-application public consultation was undertaken.
